Marathons, Walkathons, etc are heavy workout out of our ordinar daily workouts we endure. As with the ACS Relay For Life, all people try to walk the full 24 hours which takes a huge toll on our bodies. There are several here on the site who will be participating in this years ACS Relay, which I cannot express the joy it brings to me. Here are some fun tips to prepare yourself and your teams for the Relay For Life.

----------------------------------------
Go On A Hike - This is a great way to train for hills and get your feet used to terrain. Take advantage of what mother nature has given us and take your team out on a hike.

Mall Walking - I know this sounds strange, but here in the Northwest this is a very popular way of fitness since it rains so much. You can shop, walk and talk all at once! Talk about the multi-tasker.. Have your team members meet in a central location and you can walk the length of your local mall. If it is small give it a go around a couple of times.

Museum Walks - Beauty for your eyes, culture for your mind and training for you body all rolled into one great activity. Invite your team to meet up at a local museum and take training indoors for the day.

Scavenger Hunt - When is the last time you planned a good old scavenger hunt? Asimmer had some great sites to do these and they would be a perfect team event and can plan a longer training session for your walking preparation.

Garden Walk - Surround yourself with some sweet scents! Plan a training walk through a botanical garden, state parks or other local gardens in your area.

Destination Walk - We did this in Florida at St. Augustine when I was on vacation and it was wonderful! Plan a walk in a different town/neighborhood for the day. Take a boat trip to a local island and explore. This is a great exercise to explore your surrounding cummunities and treasures while preparing for your Relay.

City Tours - Arrange a walking tour with your local tour guide and see what your city has to offer. Cities offer many different types of tours including historical, underground, downtown tours and more.

Hope this helps all!
