Is there any other treatment that you can seek, such as physical therapy?

I am In really good shape, except for the fact that I am overweight?
Also I have recently discovered that I have a navel hernia?!
I have gone to the doctor and it doesn't require surgery...Yet!
Its just depressing to think that I might be like this forever?

NOTHING CAN REVERSE A HERNIA...
unfortunaly, I have had Two hernia opperations so I know a thing or two about em.
I just don't want to go though another surgery right now?
A change in diet might help....just feeling lost?

JMLCMT are naval hernias developed at birth? What are the symptoms of them I am not very up to date on heria knowledge.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain

I have had a naval hernia (umbilical hernia) for over a year.
I stopped working out when I found out about it and haven't
yet had it repaired, for various reasons. I have packed on the
beef in that time and have reached a point where I want to
have the repair done but should lose some weight first.

This morning, I joined Free Trainers, this evening I picked
up a trial pass at a gym.

Can I safely work out without agrevating the hernia?

If my trial is not too uncomfortable then I'll keep going.

Go see the doctor.
They will be able to give you the go ahead?
It depends on how severe it is?

Avoid doing anything that hurts?

I think the navel surgery is the least invasive?
I'm putting up with mine....for now.

I got my hernias late in life (27)
Not at birth.

Please listen to your bodies,
Don't push it too far...Trust me!?

Well Navel hernias are actually very common and usually develop in later life.
I know this via my classes at school (Med feild). If the hernias bothering you in anyway its best to get it removed asap just to be on the safe side. But if its just cosmeticly that its bothering, I wouldnt recomend surgery...
Surgery is nothing to mess with even non-invasive.
Dont let a small thing like a hernia get in the way of your personal well being :) its not looks that make ppl who they are its personality and style :) Alright I'm rambling on now..so..chow

Nighteyes, lol, I am "later in life" and I've had one for years. I do crunches with a 35 lb dumbell on my chest and cable crunches with 130. My wife says its cute. My Dr says don't worry. If your Dr says it's ok, don't worry about.:dumbbell::big_smile:

Since my last post, almost a month ago, I've been to the
doctor. His advise was that exercising could cause the hernia
to get bigger. "Could". But he also said that if it's not
uncomfortable, go ahead.

The trainer at the gym suggested that I be aware of how
I lift and not to lift through the stomach. They have a few
other members in the same boat.

I've been to the gym about a dozen times in the past month
and everything is A-okay. So I'll keep it up.

If it feels good, do it.

When there is something wrong with my body I tend to obsess about it?

My hernia is doing better, for now
It only hurts when I push on it?!

Still lifting without it being a problem.
I hate feeling flawed!!

hello, i am new and would like to share my hernia experiences. last may i developed an umbilical hernia from a tubaligation sergery (but did not know) until i developed a 2nd one on the right of my bellybutton, i had pain the my abdomin and had it checked out, i had surgery that may. in the mean time my gallbladder was malfunctioning and my intestines were crinked in one location causing acid reflux, had gallbladder removed and intestine straightened in dec 2003. laproscopic caused yet another hernia in one of the incisions (big enough for my intestine to protrude through. this was corrected in feb. 2004 (recently) a mesh graph was implanted over my entire abdomin to take the place of stomach lining. ( a lining never heals because there are no muscles involved. i am not released completely and would like to start an excercise and diet program. any suggestions:(emmy)

While recovering from both of my hernias
I took a lot of walks. The doctor recommended it
and it really seemed to help?
Its a good low impact exercise and helps with core strengh
