Charlie is right, as per usual, so how about anyone that gets the chance, go to www.mybodycomp.com and fill in a profile. I just feel that actually writing down our weight is the first step, at least for me, because muscle or fat, I have a tendancy to "fool" myself into believing "I haven't gained an ounce" as my pants size increases, lol!
So, let's take an additional step and break out those tape measures and see what we come up with! I like mybodycomp as it allows you to use it as a "tool" and create additional profiles as you lose, so you can keep it and see your progress! I print mine out each time and keep it and it helps me see that even though the scale may say one thing, my body is saying another! It gives an approximate bodyfat% but I would, again, only use this as a "tool" giving you an idea as you progress.
So, if you really want a good idea, go there and then come on back here and post your comments as to what you think about the numbers, and remember - they are just numbers, and this is just a "tool" like the scale, like a tape measure, like everything, we need to focus individually on our bodies and not get discouraged by all the numbers, as Charlie said. Hey, when you feel good, you will feel good and that will be the bottom line!

brionyblb, it is good to have you! A healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week since one pound equals 3500 calories, that is actually a practical loss. Good luck with your goals, just do it the healthy way and you will keep them off by continuing!
Marblez, it is good to have you, too, and it is wonderful that you would like to share your accomplishments with others! Part of weight loss and a healthy lifestyle is maintaining and it is so good that you chose to keep that in mind, also, by being a part of a support group like FT!
Jamiehannon, your weight loss goal is very practical and it is very possible! Eat good foods, don't skip meals, and exercise and you should find your goal attained! Welcome to FT!
Good luck to you all and it is great to have you here!

You guys can too, Amanda I know how ya feel, When I got over 200 I kept saying i have to loose this weight, and I walked everywhere I went, It seemed like it wouldn't help, but I know you can do it. Just keep it up, and don't give up.

Your right, Kippen. It is all about being serious about what you want to accomplish. The thing that seperates those that attain success and those that don't is simply the seriousness it takes to tackle a goal and not give up...everyone who has ever been successful with what they want from life has a story to tell and that will always start by their struggles, but they didn't give up. They will tell you about almost giving up, but they won't tell you about giving up because they didn't. They will tell you about falling short of their goals sometimes, not attaining the win the first time possibly, but going on to work harder and believing in themselves. To be a survivor, a success, you have to know the pain of the journey, but the end result is a testimony to others. You all have it in you to be EVERYTHING you want to be and there is nothing stopping you but yourselves. If success was easy to attain, we would all have it and the excitement and trial of getting there would mean nothing --so buckle down and demand of yourself nothing but the best and if you fall short now and then, just get up off the mat and take it up a notch!
============
Quoting from Kippen:
Congrads to all and keep up the good work. If we all work together and talk about it good thing do happen. I have slipped of late back to 289lbs, but all is well. Just have to get back to the gym. Bad week no one to blame but me.Good to see others doing well.

Welcome to you recent newbies!! Awesome to have you here!! Joe--check with a doctor for individual needs, that is best, this is a guideline, but has to be tweeked per individual's needs, it was about 1,000 calories too high for me or I'd be a whale by now, lol, the doctor advised as I was tweeking, but it wasn't quite enough, it may be for you, though, everyone -EVERYONE is different and has different needs.

I'm 41, 5'10" and 284lbs. My goal is to get down to 200 but there's more to losing the weight than just pounds.
Current pants - 44 almost 46. Goal 38
Current shirts XXL and my stomach and spare tire make that not look big enough. Goal - XL without the keg around my waist.
Blood pressure is controlled by medication and I have a hiatal hernia which makes it difficult to sleep at night, particularly with the extra weight. When I returned to school 3 years ago my diet got worse thanks to working nights, going to college and working at an internship. Now I'm the heaviest I've ever been and feel miserable.
My wife and I recently walked in the Susan G Komen Race for the cure and, after seeing the picture of myself during the walk, realized I needed to make a life change. I have the knowledge, but have a hard time with the motivaton and, especially, self-control as I am a compulsive overeater.
Wow, that's a lot to put out there, but just trying to be real.

The word 'excuse' basically starts with the letter 'X'. That 'X' can cross out all good intentions and can easily cover up the hope in them. It provides a way out, whether you want one or not. We all have bad habits to overcome, and this site provides other people to help give you the strength and tools to do that. You have the gumption, or you would not have come here. If you can to do some light arm or leg exercises before you even roll out of bed in the morning, sometimes that can be the momentum to continue working out. And some days, that is all the workout I can handle. Do what you can when you can, keep in mind what you did not do, but DON'T worry about it, just try to improve as you go. The main thing is to DO something, even just a little is more than not doing anything at all. I have chronic illness in my life to deal with, which will make my goals hard to achieve, but not impossible. They can be done. I am making the choice that all my 'X's are for target practice. I want my hope to belong to me, not to be destroyed by my 'X's. I am pursuing my freedom and health from weakness and weight. One leg-lift at a time. I'm 190 lbs, & want to be lighter than I am. I can achieve that goal.
