Ok..so what's the deal? I want to work out more than I do and I've been thinking of investing in some equipment for home. I'm just so confused with all the new machines and I just want something that will provide a good overall workout. I'm not looking for something that targets just one muscle group, such as an abdominal workout machine or anything like that. I'd like to go with something that provides a good cardio workout and that won't leave a hole in my pockets! Does anyone have any recommendations on an effective machine?

If you are looking for a cardio machine, I'd go with a treadmill or a stationary bike. Those shouldn't be too expensive.

I think if you want to do weight training at home, a boflex would be a good investment. You have to look at the size of it. Compare that to the size of all the weights needed to do all the boflex exercises. I've only used one once and I would never personally buy one, but maybe it's right for you.

As for cardio, a bike! Remember, cardio is not about killing yourself; it's about picking a target heart rate and maintaining that. A bike makes it easy to maintain that and it's a no-impact cadio exercise.

Hi there...
I would just forget about that...you don't wana waste your money..and we're talkin' a lot of money on equipment that are usually found in any gym...I see new ads all the time of machines or eqiupment being featured and which drift your thoughts away from the ones that were prev. there...you might wana use your own resistance...let me put it this way...don't get tooo used to the equipments...there aint nothing wrong with jogging...rock climbing...push-ups..crunches aerobics and so on you'll never need the ab-doer or whatever they call it to keep those abs lookin' good....

How about a bike? You can usually find a good stationary bike being sold in yard sales. It's low impact and is easy to use, and provides excellent cardio. Then you can always add on to your gym as you go. There is a used equiptment store here, perhaps you have a similar thing - check you phone book. Or, start going to flea market and yard sales.

Cheers

Hi. The best low cost piece of equipment that I can think of is the good old skipping rope. overall cardio, coordination and timing. Carry it home in your back pocket

Check out the Buy sell and Trade or the classifieds in the paper for a good second hand cardio machine. People are always buying them and then they collect dust in the corner.
I got a pretty good stepper for 75.00. :)

Hey there Sexy, for machines it has already been mentioned garage sales classified adds in the paper is a good place to start. Or dont use machines a skipping rope has been mentioned as well this is a good form of cardio, blend it in with jumping jacks burrpies even jogging on the spot rais your hands above your head and punch the sky. All very effective cardio and if you mix them up it works well as long as you dont stop for long in between. Cycling is also very good a brisk walk light jog. All cheap and good for you and the variety is good for you
