hi everyone.
i need to know how many calories i should be eating. every online calculator gives me widely different answers.
i am trying to lose my last 5-8 pounds of baby weight (my baby is now 19 months old)

here are my stats:

5'8
155 pounds (pre baby weight was 145-150)
athletic build, medium boned
26 year old female

i have been doing vigorous weight training 3 times per week (freetrainers.com) and at least 30-45 minutes of cardio 5-6 days per week, plus i walk 30 minutes every day and do a martial arts class once per week. so, as you can see i am pretty active. i am currently tracking my calories on fitday.com at about 1600 every day.
i have been on this schedule for about 6 weeks now and am not losing much weight...it is depressing but the worst part is i am soo hungry especially at night, i have an overwhelming desire to binge on carbs and sweets...i get so hungry! i eat snacks and i make healthy choices but i am starting to think something is wrong with me or something. i know the only real way to lose weight is to burn more than you consume, so that is why i am eating what a believe to be a reasonable amount.

i am getting so discouraged though, am i supposed to feel this hungry all the time or will my stomach get used to it?

thank you

Occasionally you have to juggle things around to get past a plateau. I would try and cut back on the cardio a lttle and believe it or not, add a cycle where you are actually taking in more calories rather than less. If you continue to keep at your present pace and don't see results, you could wind up giving in to those cravings. Occasionally giving in isn't a bad thing either.

What kinds of calories are you eating? Do you have a reasonable balance, or are you taking in a lot of carbs? Also with all of that activity, you may need to actually be eating another couple hundred calories to see results. It's very possible that you're going into too much of a caloric deficit and your body is doing the "starvation mode" thing. I think you are probably doing too much cardio. I usually suggest doing a short period of cardio (maybe 15 minutes or so) after lifting, and saving the intense stuff for in between lifting days. Don't give up, just change your tactics!

On training days I exercise 2 x per day. One weight training session...then at least 4 hours later I do cardio 45-50 min.
I learned from a scientific research study that cortisol level rise if you exercise more than 50 min. at a time. This makes your body turn in to flight reflex mode and your body tries to hold on to its fat stores. If you want to get more cardio in that will be fine keep it, but you need to structure your workouts to be productive in losing bodyfat by timing them at least 4 hours apart or more. I hope this helps.
I agree with returnofplex...you may need to increase your calories with productive ones such as more protien...+ good fats...try adding 1 or 2 extra protien shakes and a 1/2 cup of nuts. Try decreasing processed carbs (refined sugar, and flour)and replace them with a raw fruit or veggie. That is all it would take. You may be putting on some muscle too, how are your clothes fitting? What about measuring your body? Try these methods. I have lost 50lbs doing this...worked great for me. GL.
