Sticky metabolism killers and boosters

    I pulled this from blog. Thought is was a nice concise way to see many of the things that FT is always promoting for succesful wt loss.

    Metabolism Killers:
    - diets that are consistently low in calories without any cheats, refeeds, or high days
    - diets that are low in protein and fat and high in processed carbs
    - going hungry most of the day and eating a 1-2 big meals
    - hours of moderate aerobic exercise followed by hours of sitting at a desk or in front of a television
    - light weights and high-reps, you know, for toning...

    Metabolism Boosters:
    - diets that zig-zag calories so that some days there's actually a surplus
    - diets that are high in lean protein, healthy fat, and fresh fruits and vegetables
    - eating every 2-3 hours for a total of 6-8 small protein and carb balanced meals per day
    - brief very intense cardio intervals combined with a high general daily activity level
    - heavy total body strength workouts

    Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

    This is what I've read on this site from day one...didn't sink in until a few months ago...if it had been put this ONE spot...MAYBE...I would have gotten it sooner.

    This may seem like a silly question, but could you give some examples of:

    brief very intense cardio intervals combined with a high general daily activity level

    pooh, the very intense cario intervals is referring to a HIIT workout: high intensity inerval training. An example of a HIIT routine using an exercise bike would be 2 min warmup, 1 min fast pace, 1 min slow pace and repeat this 8X for a 20 min workout. It really gets the heartrate up and burns lots of calories in the process.

    High general daily activity level is simply refering to an active lifestyle which includes regular workouts with cardio and wt training sessions along with other activities which get you moving on a daily basis.

    ummm, just checked my math and realized for HIIT example I left out a 2 min cool down...that would get you to 20min....

    BB1, Have to admit that you went thru my mind when I first read this, I know you've stated everyone of these points. I just thought it useful to see it all in one spot:)

    I agree with ya FOTW...If there's one thing I've learned in my time here is that BB1 is usually on the leading edge of this stuff. He usually checks it out and tests theories and ideas before condoning or not condoning a style, activity or diet. Which is always helpful cause I know I don't have the time or knowledge to be able to do this on my own. This kind of good information is why many of us keep coming back here.
