I have been diagnosed w/"patellar chondromalacia"(softening of the cartilage under the knee cap). I was doing hack squats with too much weight and basically tore apart my cartilage in both knees. I had arthroscopic surgery to scrape away the pieces, but i'm pretty much bone on bone now. I've always been very athletic and feel I'm getting weaker by the day, because i'm not working out. My knees pop and crack to the point where their actually burning. My doc says to take it easy; no more squats, hard pounding, or anything over 90 degrees. I just feel helpless. i'm only 33yrs old,but feel like i'm 90. I know i need to build leg muscle, but how do i start without straining my knees? I desperately need to get back to the gym. I am also taking supplements, but they can only help so much. I know there has to be others out there with this condition. Please help!

There are surgeries to impact cartilage from cadavers.....from what I heard it's pretty good...I know some athletes had it done...ask your doc about it...see what he says....

Gloucosomine Choindroitin helps...

Applying menthol/camphor to knees...and using wraps helps also...

I would ask the doctor about all those surgical possibilities....at 33...it would a shame...if you have to give up your lifestyle...

go for knee replacement. They use a form of latex know that acts like cartilage.

knee replacement surgeries work pretty well also...although you will need follow up surgeries more than likely..
